Faced with a "use it or lose it" vacation policy and several years of "When are you coming out?", I took off the last two weeks of August and headed for California. The folks I went to visit mostly had jobs, so I had days free to do some sight seeing. A very handy way to do that is to use the Metro System. You can park in a Metro parking lot and take the train into town, eliminating any need to deal with the downtown parking nightmare. Buses have to stop for traffic, but the subway and most of the surface rail lines don't, which makes Metro travel faster than car travel during traffic. The all day pass for geezers is only $1.50, so this is one real bargain los Angeles has to offer. The main problem is that, except for Union Station, the Metro system has no restrooms and no water. |
