Due to our Kansas pastime of electing lunatics to the state board of education, we seem headed toward once again making ourselves a world laughing stock over evolution. As my small part in throwing gasoline on the fire, I humbly offer the following.
EVOLUTION: THE PARABLE OF THE TERMITES
Once there arose among the termites a great dispute over the origin of the house which they infested.
Some said, "Careful examination of the physical evidence shows that the house was built by saws and hammers. We have been unable to find any scientific evidence of the existence of a carpenter."
"Heresy! Blasphemy!" cried others. "The sacred building permit tells us the house was built by the Great Carpenter. It does not mention saws and hammers. Therefore, saws and hammers do not exist."
It was indeed a great debate, filled with self-righteous rancor and snide ad hominem attacks, and so it continues to this very day.
